Requirements management software with MCP
Connect Claude or another AI assistant to your requirements project, and have it draft requirements, build ID grids and create trace links in the real documents, while review, approval and signatures stay with people.
Traceable is requirements management software with a built-in MCP connector. Claude, or another AI assistant, can read your projects and draft requirements, ID grids and trace links in your real documents, under your own permissions. It drafts only: publishing, review and e-signature stay with people, and every change is recorded against your name.
A standard way for an assistant to use your tools
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to the software and data people already work in. A server describes a set of tools; the assistant discovers them, asks before it uses them, and calls them on your instruction. For requirements work that changes what an assistant is good for: it works on the live project, with its IDs and links, rather than on a copy pasted into a chat window that is out of date as soon as it is pasted.
Read the project, then draft in it
The connector has 25 tools: 8 only read, and 17 can change something. Your assistant shows them in those two groups, and the ones that change something ask every time.
Survey a project: its groups, documents, outlines and the trace graph between them.
Read a document in full, or a slice of it, as Traceable Markdown.
Create documents, optionally from one of your templates.
Author and edit content: segments, blocks, ID grids, cells and columns.
Create and delete trace links between TraceIDs, so coverage stays real.
Rename a TraceID or a document prefix without breaking the links into it.
Search and read your Reference Library, and cite an item on a document.
The decisions stay with people
In regulated work the record matters as much as the content. These are the controls that keep an assistant's work reviewable.
Drafts only
Publishing, review, approval and e-signature stay human actions in the app. A write to a published document opens a new draft rather than changing the approved version.
A person accepts the rows
By default, rows an assistant writes wait for a person to accept them before the document can be published, so its work is a reviewed proposal, never a silent edit.
It acts as you
The assistant signs in with your account through an OAuth consent screen and reaches exactly what you can reach. A read-only role stays read-only.
Every change is recorded
Each change is written to the audit trail against your name and the application that made it.
Off until an admin grants it
Access is off by default. An organisation administrator has to allow external agents and grant access to you individually, and can revoke it at any time.
MCP, live traceability and a published price
Live traceability gives the assistant something real to work on. Requirements, risks and tests in Traceable are linked by database-backed TraceIDs. When an assistant creates a trace link, coverage in the traceability matrix reflects it, and renaming a TraceID or a document prefix keeps the links into it intact. An assistant asked which requirements have no verification linked answers from the links themselves.
Templates keep its drafts in shape. It can create a document from one of your templates, so a draft starts with your structure rather than the assistant’s idea of one.
A published price means you can try it before a sales call. The connector is included on every plan: rate-limited on Free, and included from US$35 per author per month on Essentials. Every price is on the pricing page.
To set it up, read how the MCP connector works, or go straight to the connector documentation for every tool in full. For the rest of the product, see requirements management software.
Common questions
What is MCP in requirements management?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to the tools people work in. In requirements management it lets an assistant such as Claude read your projects and draft requirements, ID grids and trace links in the live documents, instead of working on text pasted into a chat.
Which AI assistants can connect to Traceable?
Claude on claude.ai, Claude Code, ChatGPT (developer mode) and Cursor are verified end to end. The connector is an ordinary remote MCP server, so any client that accepts a custom server URL can use it. Clients that only speak stdio can connect through npx mcp-remote.
Can the assistant publish, approve or sign a document?
No. Publishing, review, approval and e-signature stay human actions. The assistant can draft and edit, and by default the rows it writes wait for a person to accept them before the document can be published.
Can it see everything in my organisation?
No. It acts as you, through the same project and organisation membership as the web app. If you are not a member of a project, neither is the assistant. If your role is read-only, so is the assistant.
Is the MCP connector included in the price?
Yes, on every plan. It is included in Essentials (from US$35 per author per month), Team, Regulated and Enterprise, and available with rate limits on Free.
